Some 28 years back we sent our only son to a kids class at Hubli which was conducted in a small temple, with a 2 hours session of each day. She used to wait at the parapet of the building, from where she can watch him, while rest of the mothers used to leave their wards and come back for picking up at the right time. When he got his admission for I st standard at Kendriya Vidyalaya, which was some 7 kms from home and have to go by bus,she used to wait at the bus stop to receive, for more than half an hour, in spite of the bus stop was just in front of our house and can be watched over window, when he gets down.
When my son was in class ix,he joined NCC and they arranged 5 days camp in the outskirts of Trichy. He spent one night there and the next day myself and my wife went there to just see, what was going on. All children were moving in a queue holding their plates for breakfast and she was unable to tolerate to view the scene. She went to the Course in charge, showed him some red spots on the face of my son(may be mosquito bites in the camp),said he is having chicken pox and she wanted to take him back home. He was helpless and sent him home.
In 1998, we got admission for him in BITS/PILANI, which is more than 1000kms away and not within easy reach. We stayed with him for a couple of days. When he came to see us off in the bus stand, my wife was literally crying and I could not control her. On arrival at New Delhi station, she wanted me to connect my son from STD BOOTH. When he came on line there was only cry from her and nothing she spoke. The co-passengers of 2AC Sleeper, of Tamil Nadu express were eager to know why my wife was sobbing and I was to explain them. This continued till we reached Chennai.
